Professor John Reynolds

Professor John Reynolds is an Academic in the Dept of Anatomy at University of Otago, and on the Directorate of the Brain Research NZ Centre of Research Excellence. His research interests include translational neuromodulation for stroke and Parkinson's disease. For stroke, in collaboration with Neurosurgeon Prof Dirk de Ridder and colleagues with expertise in physiotherapy and physiology, he is investigating the benefit of electrical stimulators implanted above the motor cortex to improve motor recovery after stroke. For Parkinson’s disease, in collaboration with chemists, physicists and electronics engineers, his team is developing a novel drug delivery system to replace the missing dopamine in a more physiological manner, to maintain normal synaptic function at corticostriatal synapses and restore normal movement.
