Dr Wayne Sutherland

A Senior Research Fellow (part time) in the Department of Medicine. Currently, his main areas of interest are obesity, adipose tissue inflammation, gut hormones and postprandial metabolism. With Associate Professors Patrick Manning and Rajesh Katare, he is testing the effect of infusing glucagon-like peptide or saline on expression of genes controlling inflammation and adipogenesis in adipose tissue biopsies from obese women. Along with Patrick Manning and Professor Dirk De Ridder, he was supervisor of Samantha Ross who is studying the effect of obesity and weight loss on brain activity in the fasting and postprandial states for her PhD degree.
